The cheapest gas stove installation / gas hob installation is an in cupboard installation or an inside installation. these installations are perfectly safe when installed by registered gas installers and maintained and inspected every 12 months. The cost to install a gas stove inside is cheaper as the regulator used is generally cheaper than “outside” regulators. The installation also needs fewer parts overall as the pipe run is only the internal pipe run and excludes the external pipe run. That does not mean the installation is in any way inferior, in cupboard installations are subject to the suns rays so they do not deteriorate due to the sun, making maintenance cheaper.
The cost to install a gas stove outside is higher as there are more parts involved. These installations are not automatically safer than in cupboard / inside installations as they also need to be installed by registered gas installers. The maintenance for outside installations have higher maintenance costs as the pigtail connectors that connect the bottle to the regulator do not hold up as well in the sun so they need to be replaced every 2-3 years depending on their exposure to the sun. There are plans for a new standard that will allow flexible steel pigtails that will make the pigtails last virtually forever, but for now, there are only hose based pigtails. The downside to external gas installations is that the regulations are very strict making finding a place to install a gas bottle virtually impossible.
Gas hob installation cost
Generally, gas hob installation should cost exactly the same as a gas stove. However its sometimes not that simple because not all gas hobs fit the cutout for the hob so the gas installer may charge more if there is a lot to cut, assuming it is a wooden countertop. If you have a granite countertop you really should consider hiring a professional to cut it for you as granite cutting is not for the Average DIY’er.
Gas Geyser Installation Cost
|Geyser||Cost (Gas installation + Geyser + Plumbing)|
|Atlas 6L per minute + weather cover||R7280|
|Bosch 14L per minute + weather cover||R11820|
|Bosch 16L Optiflow (recommended)||R14690|
|Bosch 26L Optiflow for 2-3 bathrooms||R20550|
The average gas installation cost without the gas geyser will be about R2800 And +/- R2000 Plumbing. That is for an installation with a 4kg per hour regulator, so it’s good for lower capacity geysers. We always recommend getting force driven gas geysers, as you will get better gas consumption as well as, having the benefit of being able to set the exact temperature you would like to receive, meaning you would not need to add cold water to your shower if the water is too hot and never having a shower that’s “just a bit too cool”. Another advantage of most force driven gas geysers is that they can be used in conjunction with a solar water heating system, meaning the gas geyser will only kick in if there is not enough hot water coming from the solar water heating system. This is great if you have family over and your reservoir runs out of hot water or on cloudy days.
